Due to the violence in 2002, all imports and exports in Zimbabwe took huge profit hits. Tobacco, a product that accounts for about 30% of Zimbabwe's foreign earnings, sold at 15% less and had less than 20% of its former sales.


Zimbabwe's economy is mainly based on farming and agriculture. In 2000, white farmers were exiled and the large farms with experienced workers were replaced with much smaller farms with inexperienced workers. Zimbabwe used to export many agricultural materials- now the country must import products.
